Every insurance company selling insurance in Kenya must be licensed by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA). CIC Insurance Nanyuki lists IRA licence number IRA/06/240/2026. Confirm the current licence on the IRA website before paying any premium.

Questions to ask

• What exactly is covered, and what is excluded?
• What is the excess and any waiting period?
• How are claims made, and how long do they take?
• Can I pay in instalments or via M-Pesa?

Documents to prepare

Have your national ID or passport and KRA PIN ready. Motor cover also needs the logbook; business cover may need a registration certificate and asset list.

After you buy

Ask for your policy document and receipt in writing. If a claim dispute cannot be settled with the provider, you can complain to the IRA Consumer Protection Department.
